Topographic Maps: Boswell, Hooversville

County Maps: Somerset

Description: Two miles of flatwater can be added by putting in at US Route 30. The gradient begins immediately below Boswell. The first drops are among car-sized boulders. The middle mile is steepest with uniform rocky gradient. The closing rapids within sight of US Route 219 are small ledges. [Reported 2003]

Difficulties: Possible downed trees. Many rapids in blind turns.

Shuttle: Start at the crossroads of US Route 30 and US Route 219. Take US Route 219 north for about 1 mile to State Route 4101. Turn left/west on State Route 4101 and go about 1.5 miles to the put-in at Boswell. To reach the take‑out, return to US Route 219.  Cross US Route 219 and go about 1.5 miles to the take-out at the reservoir.

Gauges: None. Check the level at the put-in and from the US Route 219 bridge. The Ferndale gauge on Stony Creek will probably read above 3.5 feet.

Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is small, it should normally be runnable approximately January through April.
